Cruise Ship Inspections, How Did Yours Do?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has completed sanitary inspections on over 100 cruise ships in the current year, with the majority receiving passing grades of 95 or higher.

In 2024, 19 ships excelled with a flawless score of 100 on their assessments.

These exceptional vessels hail from renowned cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, and Disney Cruise Line, among others. The surprise inspections were conducted intermittently from January 2 to September 3.

Among the Cleanest Cruise Ships in 2024 are:

- Carnival Spirit — inspected on September 3
- Viking Orion — inspected on August 18
- Seabourn Odyssey — inspected on August 16
- Norwegian Jewel — inspected on July 24
- Oceania Regatta — inspected on July 24
- Radiance of the Seas — inspected on July 21
- MSC Meraviglia — inspected on July 9
- Norwegian Bliss — inspected on June 22
- MSC Seashore — inspected on May 26
- Norwegian Sky — inspected on May 23
- Brilliance of the Seas — inspected on May 16
- Viking Polaris — inspected on April 2
- Celebrity Equinox — inspected on February 25
- Norwegian Breakaway — inspected on February 25
- Norwegian Escape — inspected on January 27
- Explora I — inspected on January 25
- Disney Fantasy — inspected on January 24
- Celebrity Ascent — inspected on January 7
- Norwegian Gem — inspected on January 2

During these evaluations, officials scrutinize various areas like kitchens, pools, and children's activity centers, as well as minute details such as pool strainer disinfection frequency and dishwasher water temperatures.

Inspections typically last 6-8 hours, contingent on factors such as the number of inspectors, vessel size, time spent in port, and any identified issues during the inspection. The CDC underscores that these evaluations occur regularly without advance notice.

According to Business Insider, by this point last year, 29 cruise ships had notched perfect scores, with 34 vessels concluding 2023 with immaculate CDC sanitation ratings.

5. Carnival Miracle — Carnival Cruise Line, inspected April 21, score: 88

6. MSC Magnifica — MSC Cruises, inspected May 17, score: 86

7. Evrima — Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, inspected Feb. 9, score: 86

8. Carnival Breeze — Carnival Cruise Line, inspected March 21, score: 86

9. Caribbean Princess — Princess Cruises, inspected March 20, score: 86

10. Hanseatic Inspiration — Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, inspected Sept. 29, score: 62
