Royal Caribbean International passengers will see a slight increase in costs on their upcoming voyages, as the cruise line has announced a raise in its gratuity rates starting November 1, 2024. The recommended crew gratuities, automatically added to onboard accounts, will be higher each day.

Suite guests will now pay $21 per person per day, up from $20.50, while passengers in other cabin categories will see their daily gratuity rise from $18 to $18.50.

Guests who make reservations and pre-pay their gratuities before November 1 can lock in the current rate. While gratuities are added automatically, guests can adjust them before disembarking. These funds are collected by the cruise line and distributed among crew members who work to enhance the overall cruise experience.

CEO of Destinations 24/7 Travel Services LLC, Scott Faust, explained that cruise lines adjust gratuity rates in response to inflation and rising costs in the hospitality industry. Last November, Royal Caribbean also raised gratuity rates, following in the footsteps of Princess Cruises, which increased its crew appreciation charges in August of this year.
