Baha Mar is proceeding with plans for a $350 million luxury resort, set to open in 2029.
A Heads of Agreement was signed with the government on Wednesday for the project, which will be built on the former site of the Melia Hotel, which was originally planned for renovation but was eventually torn down.
Baha Mar President Graeme Davis stated: “We anticipate starting construction in early 2026. The resort will be completed in three years, with the first guests expected to arrive in 2029.” Davis also mentioned that they are currently in advanced talks with a renowned global luxury hospitality brand to elevate the resort’s offerings.
Davis stressed the importance of the project, saying: “This $350 million investment highlights Baha Mar’s role in driving economic growth and job opportunities in The Bahamas. We are appreciative of the government’s support in making this development a reality.”
As part of the “Luxury of Choice” collection by Baha Mar, the new resort will cover 12 acres of beachfront land and will feature around 350 rooms and 50 luxury branded residences. Visitors can look forward to four new restaurants, including a rooftop Omakase experience and a beachfront eatery with a celebrity chef. Other amenities include a 14,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, high-end shops, large pools, various entertainment areas, and family-friendly spaces.
The resort will also offer 25,000 square feet of event space, including a 10,000-square-foot ballroom and a 6,000-square-foot junior ballroom. The project is predicted to create roughly 400 construction jobs and over 500 permanent positions for Bahamians upon opening, in addition to Baha Mar’s current workforce of more than 5,000 associates.
Prime Minister Philip Davis commended the project, stating: “This new phase for Baha Mar demonstrates The Bahamas’ readiness for business and willingness to embrace new prospects.” He emphasized the significance of the collaboration between the government and private stakeholders, noting that the project symbolizes a commitment to sustainable growth and development in the Bahamas.
