You May Want To Check The Banned Items List On Your Next Cruise

When you board a cruise ship, your luggage will be scanned to check for prohibited items. Each cruise line has a slightly different list of banned items, but generally, they are looking for things like guns, knives, and other weapons.
Some new cruisers may be surprised to find that items like small appliances, candles, and irons are not allowed onboard. Irons and steamers, in particular, may seem harmless but pose a fire risk.
There are exceptions to the rules, such as being allowed to bring matches or a lighter for smoking. Enforcement of these rules can vary, as seen in a recent experience on a Royal Caribbean cruise where a cigar cutter was initially flagged but then allowed onboard.
Royal Caribbean has specific rules regarding power strips, extension cords, and outlet extenders. Recently, the cruise line updated its rules to ban multiplug outlets, which were previously allowed. It is unclear whether this new rule is being actively enforced.
Confiscated items are typically returned at the end of the trip through a table in the cruise terminal, providing passengers with a chance to reclaim their belongings.
