Great News for Travelers to Cancun Mexico

Officials in Cancun, Mexico have finally abolished a controversial rule that has been causing trouble for tourists visiting the popular resort city.

In a video shared on Facebook, Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama announced that travelers passing through Cancun International Airport will no longer be required to pay a fee for bringing more than one larger electronic device, such as laptops and tablets. The new policy is in effect immediately.

Lezama expressed her relief at being able to eliminate the charge, stating that it was causing inconvenience and negative impressions of the destination. She credited the Mexican Customs agency for their support in making the change.

The decision to remove the fee came after reports of tourists being charged an average of $190 for carrying multiple electronic devices. Some travelers had their items confiscated when unable or unwilling to pay the fee.

Tammy Levent, President of Elite Travel, played a significant role in raising awareness about the issue. She shared her own experience of being forced to pay $170 to bring her iPad into the country and met with officials to discuss the impact of the rule on visitors to Cancun.

Thanks to her efforts and those of other advocates, tourists can now travel to Cancun without being burdened by unnecessary charges for their electronic devices.
